Connect44 is seeking a Back Office IP Engineer to join our team in Bucharest on a permanent basis. This is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and optimisation of the IP/MPLS backbone and Core connectivity.

Main activities and tasks:

  • Provide 2nd line operational support for the IP/MPLS backbone and Core transport network, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Manage the lifecycle of IP-related Incidents, Problems, and Changes, coordinating with vendors, field teams, and stakeholders.
  • Perform configuration, integration, and maintenance of backbone and edge routers, IP gateways, and related infrastructure supporting RAN and Core.
  • Support data centre connectivity, ensuring reliable IP interconnects for services, applications, and virtualized platforms.
  • Participate in network upgrades and migrations, including the introduction of cloud-native and virtualized network functions.
  • Monitor routing stability, capacity, and performance KPIs; troubleshoot anomalies and propose optimisation actions.
  • Assist in Change Management activities such as planning, executing, and validating configuration changes, software updates, and parameter adjustments.
  • Conduct acceptance testing and validation of new equipment, links, and features prior to production rollout.
  • Provide remote technical support to field engineers during installation, migration, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and documentation, including procedures, technical reports, and lessons learned.
  • Participate in on-call rotations (24x7), acting as technical authority for IP-related escalations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on network resilience, automation, and efficiency.

Required Education & Trainings:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or IT Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent) are an advantage.

Required Experience:

  • Experience in IP networking and service provider environments, ideally with MPLS and large-scale routing.
  • Background in Incident, Problem, and Change Management in an operations/NOC setting.
  • Exposure to data centre or virtualised environments (NFVI, cloud-native, or similar).
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  •  Experience working with multi-vendor telecom networks is desirable.

Specific skills & technical knowledge:

  • Very good understanding of IP/MPLS technologies, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), and VPN services (L2/L3 VRF).
  • Knowledge of QoS, traffic engineering, and redundancy/failover design.
  • Awareness of cloud and virtualisation concepts related to telecom networks.
  • Ability to use scripting/automation tools for operational efficiency is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Professional level of English is required.
